Chamber Music Gets a Well Needed Boost
For the last six years, a passionate group of musicians have been inspiring a new generation of dedicated music makers. Chamber music has a real champion and it’s called The Blue Mountain Festival.
This summer, teenagers and college students from all over the world will join together at Eastern University, near Philadelphia, to learn the art of creating beautiful music through collaboration.
Most young classical musicians have never experienced the joy of playing with their peers in small ensembles. BMF fills this void. The BMF program equips these students with the power and ability to create music with fellow musicians in a beautiful environment. The whole is definitely far greater than the parts.
During a two week period, BMF world class musicians provide campers with a vast array of activities including daily coaching, theory, Dalcroze classes, master classes, student concerts and of course, faculty concerts. While the program is musically intense, BMF also schedules time for sports and other traditional camp activities. The result is an exciting 2 week experience culminating in an all student concert that often brings the audience to a standing ovation. It is easy to understand why the chamber experience brings the camper back year after year.
Children have a natural love for chamber music and every year BMF proves that point. This year BMF's Day Camp will run from July 21-25 and be held a The First Presbyterian Church, 120 East State St., Trenton. Youngsters from 1st through 8th grade who play violin, viola, cello, classical guitar, piano or flute will be able to take group classes in their instrument while receiving ear-training, movement, and orchestra classes, and of course training in chamber ensemble. At BMF children know that learning with new friends is fun.
One of the festival highlights is the theme oriented Faculty Concerts presenting recognized masterpieces alongside rarely performed musical gems. This season, BMF Faculty Concerts will feature a program of Eastern European favorites including chamber works of Kodaly, Bartok, Martinu, and Dvorak.
A second faculty program tracing the evolution of 19th century Romantic music will present works by John Field, Beethoven, Weber and will finish with the Brahms Piano Quintet. Not limited to just a music camp format, BMF has a year round commitment to performance and education. This November, BMF will give the first of a multi concert series at The Trenton First Presbyterian Church featuring Artistic Director, Dr. Luba Sindler and The Blue Mountain Chamber Players. This series presents selections from 400 years of great chamber music and heralds the beginning of an artistic partnership between BMF and the Trenton Community.
