Julian Ross, Violinist

Julian Ross, Professor of Violin; Head of String Department; member of the Elysian Trio. D.M.A., Rutgers University; M.M., Eastman School of Music; B.M., Cincinnati College Conservatory. Julian Ross is concertmaster of the Baldwin-Wallace Bach Festival Orchestra. 

In great demand as a performer of new works, Ross' recent engagements have included numerous appearances as soloist in concertos that he has commissioned and premiered. His teachers have included Jens Ellerman, Sylvia Rosenberg, Eric Rosenblith and Arnold Steinhardt. 

As violinist on the faculty of Memphis State University for eight years, Dr. Ross performed as a member of the Memphis Piano Quartet, the Memphis Casio Quartet and the Faculty Chamber Ensemble. During that time, Ross appeared as guest artist on tours with the Musical Arts Consortium and the New Orchestra of Boston, toured extensively as a member of the Arcadia Trio and served as President of the Tennessee Chapter of the American String Teachers Association. While working as a Fellow at Rutgers University, he appeared as concertmaster of the Riverside Symphonia and as a member of the Princeton Chamber Symphony. He subsequently joined the faculty of Florida State University and performed as concertmaster of the Tallahassee Symphony. Ross taught and performed for over ten years at the Yellow Barn Music Festival, and more recently has been on the violin faculty of the Brevard Music Center. He has performed at many other summer festivals, including Aspen, the Heidelberg Schloss Spiele, the New College and the Rutgers Summerfest. 

In 1995, Ross was recipient of the Elizabeth Wycoff-Durham award in music performance. He has authored two volumes of technical materials for his violin students, Right From the Start, and I Wish I'd Practiced That
