Michele Kelly

Michele Kelly (flute) is the flutist and co-Artistic Director of Relâche, the ensemble for new music. In addition to its regular subscription series in Philadelphia, the octet participates in performances and workshops across the country, working directly with some of the most notable composers in the world, including Philip Glass, Michael Nyman, and Uri Caine. In addition, Ms. Kelly appears on the group's last two recordings, Press Play and Eight Point Turn. She also appears on a disc featuring chamber music of Cynthia Folio, Flute Loops. When not with Relâche, she performs regularly around the region in a variety of settings, from two- and three-piece chamber ensembles to symphony orchestras. Ms. Kelly is also a College House Teaching Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania, where she in addition to individual studio teaching, she acts as an ensemble coach through the Penn Chamber program. She is also the Music Director of Penn Flutes, an ensemble in excess of twenty players which she founded and continues to operate, with regular performances and educational outreach programs throughout the region. Ms. Kelly also maintains a similar flute ensemble consisting of members of her private studio, largely based in the Philadelphia suburbs. She received her MMus from the University of Michigan, where she also received a Specialist's degree in Chamber Music Performance. The daughter of noted abstract expressionist artist James Groff lives in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia with her family.
